A Christmas Hamper under the Christmas Tree really does shout luxury and guarantees that wow factor. Make your own this Christmas and avoid the hefty price tag that comes with shop bought hampers plus you can personalise it specifically for that special someone. Read on to find out how.

  • Small wooden crate
  • Rust-Oleum Glitter or Glitter Spray Paint (in your choice of colours)
  • Cloth
  • Sanding paper
  • Paint brushes
  • Stencils (optional)
  • Metallic Pen(s)
  • Newspaper or a sheet to cover your surfaces

Make sure your surfaces are well covered before you start - we used newspaper but you can use anything you have to hand including cardboard or a dust sheet.

Begin by preparing your wooden crate for painting. If the surface is quite rough, you will need to use a piece of sanding paper to smooth the surface down and create a key for your paint. Once done, give it a clean with some warm water and a cloth. Once dry continue onto step 2.

Open your Rust-Oleum Glitter in the colour(s) of your choice and give it a good stir. Take a paint brush and start painting your crate. For full coverage you will need several coats. We recommend you leave 3-4 hours between coats.

If you are using the Spray Paint shake the can vigorously for one minute and often during use. Hold the can 30cm away from the decorations and spray. Recoat within 1 hour.

Don't forget to paint the insides and bottom of your crate!

Once your crate has fully dried, take your metallic pen in the colour of your choice (we used gold) and use your stencils to add your design on. You can also do this free-hand if you prefer.

Add your gifts and you have a gorgeous hamper ready to give to a loved one at Christmas.

Don't forget to let us see your designs - you can share them with us by emailing us at info@paintpeople.co.uk - you never know, we may just feature yours!
