Restore small items using Rust-Oleum Stone Spray Paint. Furniture, vases and general bric and brac-a-brac can be transformed giving the impression of a much weightier item that has the natural look and texture of real stone. The adhesive formula provides a long-lasting, decorative finish which prompt people to reach out and touch.
In this guide, we show you how to transform tired vases into unique items that you will be proud to display in your home.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Rust-Oleum Stone Spray Paint
  • Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint
  • Artist Paint Brush
  • Masking Tape
  • Newspaper

1. PREPARE THE VASE AND AREA

Ensure the vase is clean by giving it a good wipe over with a damp sponge or cloth and allow it to dry. To ensure you create clean lines, use the masking tape to mask the bottom of the vase.

Make sure you are working in a well-ventilated space and place the vase on top of a large dust sheet or old newspaper to protect the surface underneath. You may also want to cover the surrounding area to protect it from the spray mist.

2. APPLY THE STONE SPRAY PAINT

Take your can of Rust-Oleum Stone (we used the colour Pebble) and shake thoroughly until you hear the ball rattle. Hold the can approximately 30cm from the surface of the vase and spray in bursts. Apply several light coats a few hours apart. Leave to dry in a well-ventilated place for 24 hours.

Rust-Oleum Stone is available in three textured shades: Bleached Stone, Pebble and Black Granite and can be applied to most surfaces including wood, metal, plaster, clay and unglazed ceramic.

3. PAINT WITH CHALKY FURNITURE PAINT

Once step 2 is completed and the paint is fully dry, carefully peel away the masking tape to reveal the unpainted base.

Using Chalky Furniture Paint, use the artistic paint brush to paint the bare part of the vase. Chalky Furniture Paint 125ml pots are perfect for small craft projects, as the highly pigmented paint is water-based with virtually no odour and no priming or sanding is necessary on most surfaces.

4. DISPLAY IT

Once dry, take your newly decorated vases and give them pride of place on your shelves.
