The colour achieved after application may differ from the colour shown on our website. We have made every effort to display the colours of the products as accurately as electronic media will allow. In addition to the influence of different displays on colour values, please note that different coloured decking will also influence the result of your Firmtread Deck Coat application. Our product images show an example of untreated and treated wood after application of the relevant colours.

    Technical Specification

If the colour or finish is critical, we would recommend carrying out a test area to make sure you are happy with the end result.

    Use where:

    Use on:

Stained or unstained decking and other wood surfaces.  Firmtread Anti Slip Deck Coating is designed to bring out the natural grain of the wood.  If your wood has been stained or painted, the product may not entirely block out the previous colour since it’s partially translucent to reflect the surface of the timber.  Multiple coats will help, but it is advisable to carry out a test area first to make sure you are happy with the finish.

    Ask a Question
    • A: This product is a solvent based alkyd and will seal the surface and is not classed as breathable.

    • A: This product is usually applied to a timber surface and this can be quite porous. I would suggest the surface be touch dry for a minimum period of around 24 hours before you consider applying the coating, otherwise any residual moisture in the surface could rise and stop the coating from bonding correctly.

    • A: Hi John,

Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately we would not recommend using a varnish over our coating. A varnish requires a level of porosity so it can soak in and bind to the surface, in fact it is deigned to mostly penetrate the surface and seal the top of whatever it is applied to. If the surface is coated with our Firmtread Anti Slip Deck Coating it would not allow the varnish to penetrate the surface below.

I am sorry. Do let us know if we can help further.

      Kind Regards,

    • A: Hi, unfortunately due to the aggregate additive used to create the anti-slip surface I am afraid it would not be suitable to be sprayed.

    • A: Yes, you can paint over old paint – it would need to be clean and dry and well bonded – so worth going over with a wire brush and cleaning with Deck Clean, and allowing to dry before painting over.
