    Ask a Question
    • A: Yes, our product can be applied on top as long as the original product is ast least a week old and it would be advisable to lightly abraded prior to coating the new product.

    • A: no this is not suitable for concrete or tiles

    • A:

Dependent on the wood that you are applying it to, how much you use the area and what activities you undertake on the area you may need to reapply this coating annually for cosmetic reasons.

    • A: You will need to make sure the decking is clean from lichen, algae and grease. You can wash it with a mild detergent and give it a good brush with a stiff broom, leaving it to dry completely before application. For new decking we would also reccomend abrading with a wire brush to create a good key for the product to bond to; make sure any loose debris are swept away.

    • A: The Anti Slip Deck Coating contains tiny particles which provide an anti slip finish, so your decking won't be slippery when wet but will still feel and appear smooth. We reccomend abrading your decking to provide a good key for the product to bond to before applying the tint.

    • A: We would reccomend two coats or more. Results depend on the porosity of your decking so we would advise testing a small area first.

    • A: Unfortunately this is a tint and won't completely cover the colour of the decking underneath, as it is designed to show the natural grain of the wood.

    • A: Hello, we are expecting our stock to be replenished around the 22nd. This is a very popular product and we have had an influx of orders and are doing our best to meet demand. We are just sorry that customers have had to wait longer than usual.

    • A: If the previous coating is able to dry out completely and can be left for seven days, then our coating can be applied over the top of it. However we would recommend sanding the original coating back slightly to achieve a ‘key’ to allow our coating ot stick to it. This may cause problems with the finish you have currently.

    • A: Hi, this can be applied over a previously sealed surface, once completely dry (allow a minimum of 7 days between application).

However, if the under stain has been applied within the last 12 months, I would suggest lightly sanding back the very top. Not to remove it but to create a key/texture for our coating to bond to.

    • A: Hi - some of our products are going out of stock more quickly than usual but we’re doing our best to get you what you need. We’ve stepped up our manufacturing and our most popular products are always top of our “make it” list.

We’re currently working on a feature where you can see availability on our website and if the product you’re after is out of stock, just give us your email in the “Let me know when it’s back in stock” box and we’ll send you an email as soon as it’s back on the shelves and ready to despatch. Please keep an eye out, the feature will be available soon.

    • A: Hi, Silver Birch is light grey and it is a coloured oil which stains and tints the timber.

    • A: Hi, we should have it back in around the 5th of May so do keep an eye out on our website.

    • A: Hi, please look at our website for the complete colour range.  Unfortunately due to unprecedented demand we are out of stock of the colours (except clear) until around the 5th of May.  Keep an eye on our website!  Firmtread Anti Slip Deck Coating is a stain not a paint.  It is designed to enhance the natural grain of the timber and tint it, rather than giving a block solid colour.  Hope this helps.

    • A: This product is a solvent based alkyd and will seal the surface and is not classed as breathable.

    • A: This product is usually applied to a timber surface and this can be quite porous. I would suggest the surface be touch dry for a minimum period of around 24 hours before you consider applying the coating, otherwise any residual moisture in the surface could rise and stop the coating from bonding correctly.

    • A: Hi John,

Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately we would not recommend using a varnish over our coating. A varnish requires a level of porosity so it can soak in and bind to the surface, in fact it is deigned to mostly penetrate the surface and seal the top of whatever it is applied to. If the surface is coated with our Firmtread Anti Slip Deck Coating it would not allow the varnish to penetrate the surface below.

I am sorry. Do let us know if we can help further.

      Kind Regards,

    • A: Hi, unfortunately due to the aggregate additive used to create the anti-slip surface I am afraid it would not be suitable to be sprayed.

    • A: Yes, you can paint over old paint – it would need to be clean and dry and well bonded – so worth going over with a wire brush and cleaning with Deck Clean, and allowing to dry before painting over.
